Endowment Fund

JOINTLY FOUNDED BY THE CITY OF NANTES AND THE SEMI-PUBLIC COMPANY, LA FOLLE JOURNÉE, THE CULTURAL DEVELOPMENT ENDOWMENT FUND AIMS TO ENABLE A MAXIMUM NUMBER OF PEOPLE TO ACCESS CLASSICAL MUSIC FOR THE FIRST TIME OR TO REDISCOVER IT.

The Endowment Fund therefore supports a range of actions and activities to respond to the different requirements of its beneficiaries, and strives to remove financial, geographical, physical or social barriers that may be an impediment in participating in La Folle Journée. This includes widening access to the festival, and more widely to classical music in general, through contact with so-called “unable”, “remote” or “struggling” audiences, as well as with school pupils. These actions form part of Nantes’ cultural proximity policy. Goals: to create equal access to art and culture, to promote links and encourage contact between the inhabitants of Nantes and the wider Nantes metropolis, and to provide a space for the expression, widening and enrichment of one’s own cultural identity.

In order to achieve these ambitious goals, which were established seven years ago, the Endowment Fund focuses its actions around three educational and inclusive axes.

Support in raising musical awareness and learning music

The Endowment Fund manages a range of projects to promote musical instrument lessons and increase access to classical music for all possible audiences, including those discovering it for the first time and those returning to it.

Support for new talent and artistic creation

The Endowment Fund actively supports musicians undergoing training and confirmed professionals.

Inclusive participation in La Folle Journée

In 2017, 9,698 tickets at €4 were sold as part of the La Folle Journée Solidaire project.

The support of its sponsors and the collaborative work with social stakeholders in the region make it possible for the Fund to undertake these different actions and to contribute to raising awareness of classical music amongst an increasingly large and diverse public and opening up the world of La Folle Journée. We would like to thank them for their support and encouragement.
